Speightstown, often called the “Second City” of Barbados, is a historic and vibrant town on the northern West Coast in St. Peter. With its rich colonial heritage, friendly local atmosphere, and beautiful beaches, it offers a more authentic and relaxed Caribbean experience compared to the glitzier southern West Coast areas.
Speightstown is well-positioned for golf lovers, with easy access to the excellent Royal Westmoreland Golf & Country Club and Sandy Lane Golf Club (both approximately 15–20 minutes south).
The area boasts lovely ocean views and direct access to several beautiful beaches. Six Men’s Bay and the beach at Speightstown itself offer calm waters ideal for swimming and water activities. Further north, you’ll find quieter beaches with a more local, laid-back feel. The sunsets from this part of the coast are particularly spectacular.
Lifestyle & Atmosphere
Speightstown has a warm, authentic, and community-oriented atmosphere. It is less commercialised than Holetown, offering a genuine slice of Bajan life. The town is lively, especially on Friday nights with the famous Speightstown Fish Fry, which attracts both locals and visitors. It’s a favourite for families, long-term residents, and those who prefer a friendly, down-to-earth West Coast town vibe with convenient amenities including supermarkets, banks, and local shops.
